We use a six foot leash and a nylon or leather flat collar when we train. If we encounter a control problem or on leash exuberance we'll use a halti for better gentler control.
We use alot of food at first when we begin training. The food rewards we use to shape the behaviors we want are phased out before the end of the Building the Comfort Zone and Finishing Touches and in most cases for our Intensive Training dogs.
This method of training works because food is the currency of dogs and since we wouldn't expect a human to work for free why should we expect our dog to. Food is not necessary once the command being taught has been properly reinforced with a solid reward history. Since our dog owes us nothing its up to us to EARN our dogs attention and focus and we teach our clients how to do that. Our training is effective because of the amount of timely feedback we give the dog.
The Fearful Dog
We'll show you how to use food strategically to help this training work. We teach our clients how to use the food and certain chew items to help the dog condition comfort while being exposed to what scares or makes them uncomfortable. Clients are coached on the three promises of safety they need to communicate to their dog during this process.
Training for Dogs with Separation Anxiety Home program
- Departure preparation exercises
- How to condition emotional bounce back to alone time
- How to measure the dogs progress
How We Train Our Dog's Owner
The secret of learning how to be a good trainer is learning the art of consistent communication and feedback between the owner and their dog.
Once our clients learn the results of successful feedback, they will experience the empowering results with the dogs' behavior and obedience.
The only demand we make of ourselves and our clients is empathy first- your dog's comfort is of paramount importance to us.
Class Atmosphere
Our aim is to provide a program that is upbeat and motivational. We do not attend and obedience class to be barked at by a trainer with control issues. Our training needs to be gentle for both owner and dog.
We understand that attending classes can be nerve racking for both owner and dog. For this reason, we do our best to make classes as fun and stress-free as possible.
There is an old learning axiom titled E.D.I.C.T. E: Explain D: Demonstrate I: Instruct C: Correct T: Train
